French Lover (known as Bois d'Orage in France) was composed by Pierre Bourdon for Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle — a cool, structured masculine that sits apart from the warm orientals that dominated the decade of its release.

Juniper berries, angelica, and pink pepper open the composition with a gin-like aromatic lift. Orris root and incense form a dry, slightly smoky heart. Cedarwood and vetiver close the base — green, crisp, and understated in the way all Malle compositions tend to be.
