Modern Poet opens like a cold drink. Lemon, grapefruit, and citron do most of the talking, gin adds a dry juniper edge that keeps it from reading as a simple citrus, and olibanum lends a resinous coolness underneath rather than a smoky one.
The middle is where it gets more interesting than the opening suggests. Matcha and cardamom bring a green, herbal warmth, and geranium adds a rose and mint brightness that stops the whole thing settling too early. The base then takes over: vetiver and moss for earth, patchouli and sandalwood for wood, and balsam and amber for the warmth that stays on skin at the end. It reads clean for the first hour and woody for the rest of the day.
