Mr Thompson is a later addition to the Penhaligon's Portraits collection — an unrepentant gentleman who favours gin over conversation. The composition is dry, herbal, and unmistakably masculine.
Gin-accord and anise open the fragrance with an aromatic, slightly bitter lift. The heart deepens into cedar and tobacco leaf; the base closes on leather, bergamot, and a touch of vanilla that softens the drier facets without making the composition sweet.
