When to Choose an Extrait

There is a particular kind of scent you notice only when someone leans in. It sits close, it lasts, and it rewards attention rather than demanding it. That is the register the Extrait tier is built for, and knowing when it suits you makes the choice simple.

What Extrait actually gives you

Extrait de Parfum carries the richest, most tenacious character we offer. It holds close to the skin, it develops slowly, and it lingers. The trade is deliberate: instead of a large, room-filling bubble, you get depth and staying power in a tighter circle around you. Think presence over a whisper, worn intimately rather than broadcast.

Two honest caveats keep this from becoming a promise it cannot keep.

• Richer is not automatically louder. A higher concentration sets a general character and a ceiling, not a guarantee of projection. A well-composed EDP can push further into a room than a quiet Extrait, because projection and longevity are separate things. For the underlying idea, see What Concentration Actually Means.
• Concentration is not quality. Extrait costs more to compose and is prized for its density, but it does not make a scent better than a fine EDP. It makes it a different experience.

When Extrait is the right choice

Reach for Extrait when the occasion or the mood asks for closeness and endurance rather than reach.

• You want it to last. Extrait is the most tenacious tier we carry, so it suits long days and long evenings where you would rather not reapply.
• You prefer a scent worn close. If you like a fragrance others discover only when near you, Extrait's skin-close character is exactly that.
• The setting rewards restraint. Evenings, cool weather, and occasions that deserve a serious, quiet presence are natural Extrait territory. In tight spaces where a projection monster would be too much, a close-wearing Extrait is the considerate choice.
• You apply sparingly by nature. Extrait is potent, so a dab or a single spray goes a long way. If you already wear scent lightly, this tier is easy to live with.

When to lean toward EDP instead: if you want more lift and a scent that fills the room, a bright daytime wear for warm weather, or simply the most versatile everyday option, EDP is the standard tier and often the better fit. Neither is a mistake. They are two ways to wear the same idea.

How the Extrait box is built

One detail worth knowing before you choose at checkout. An Extrait box is a curated mix of Extrait and EDP, rounded out with EDP so every box stays full of thirty fragrances, one for each day. An EDP box contains EDP only. So choosing the Extrait tier does not mean every single day is an Extrait, it means the box is anchored in that richer register and completed with EDP where needed. That keeps the box full without ever thinning the curation.

If a chosen scent becomes unavailable from the rotating collection, you will be asked to pick a like-for-like replacement, and if you do not choose in time we assign a comparable alternative in the same character. We never promise an exact bottle, only a comparable one.
