Our Authentication Service

Selling, Authentication and Pre-Orders 4 min read Updated July 14, 2026

When you own a bottle that matters, the question underneath every other question is a simple one: is it real. Our authentication service exists to answer it with care, so you can wear a fragrance, sell it, or pass it on knowing it has been checked properly rather than guessed at.

What the service does

Authentication is a hands-on review of your actual bottle, not a lookup and not a guess from a photo alone. You send the fragrance in, we examine it under controlled conditions, and we ship it back with a permanent record of the result. It is the honest counterpart to everything you cannot tell from a listing or a stock image.

Two things are worth saying plainly up front. A batch code is not proof of authenticity. Counterfeiters copy real codes onto fake bottles all the time, so a code that "checks out" in an online decoder proves very little on its own. Real confidence comes from trusted sourcing and a proper physical review, which is exactly what this service provides. If you want the longer explanation, see Batch Codes Explained.

How to start a request

The service lives at /authenticate, and you will need to be signed in so the request stays tied to your account. The flow is a short wizard:

  1. Enter the bottle facts. Brand, name, concentration, and size, the same details printed on the bottle and box.
  2. Add clear photos. Good, well-lit photos of the bottle, the box, the batch code, and the atomizer help the review go smoothly.
  3. Pay the verification fee. The fee is a single configured amount and it varies, so see the live figure on the /authenticate page before you commit.
  4. Ship the bottle in. Once payment is complete you send the fragrance to us, packed well and upright, so it can be examined in person.

Every request has its own private status page, and you can follow where yours stands from your account at /dashboard/authentications. Nothing about your request is public while it is in progress.

The Verified by Fragrance Box code

When a bottle passes, it comes back with a permanent authenticity code in the format FBV-XXXX-XXXX. The code is printed for you to keep, and it is publicly verifiable by anyone you share it with, which is what makes it useful when the time comes to sell or gift the bottle.

Anyone holding the code can look it up at /verify without an account. A lookup returns one of three states:

  • Verified. An active code, showing the brand, name, size, and issue date.
  • Voided. A code that was revoked and should no longer be trusted.
  • Not found. No such code exists in our records.

The lookup is privacy safe by design. It confirms the bottle and its details, but it never reveals who submitted it or any internal note about the review. For a fuller walk through the lookup itself, see Verifying a Fragrance.

When authentication is worth it

Reach for the service when the stakes justify a proper check: a pricey bottle bought secondhand, a gift you want to hand over with confidence, or a fragrance you plan to list for sale and want backed by a verifiable code. If your real aim is to sell a bottle to us rather than to authenticate one you are keeping, that is a different door, and it starts at /sell.

Whenever you are ready to have a bottle reviewed, begin at /authenticate, and if anything about your request is unclear, write to us at [email protected] and we will walk you through it.
